International Accreditations

In January 2016, HMC achieved the significant distinction of becoming the only healthcare organization outside the United States to receive simultaneous Joint Commission International (JCI) re-accreditation for all its hospitals, endorsing the quality and safety of its services. HMC’s National Ambulance Service, Home Healthcare Service, Stroke Service, and Palliative Care, have also received JCI accreditation, in addition to numerous other international accreditations for HMC facilities.

Academic Health System

HMC Tertiary Hospitals:

Hamad General Hospital

Hamad General Hospital is a modern, 603-bed facility in Doha, providing highly specialized and complex outpatient and inpatient medical and surgical care in all specialties including emergency medicine, pediatrics, and critical care. Modern diagnostic facilities including laboratory, medicine, pathology, and radiology facilities support all therapeutic services.

Hamad General Hospital & Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Center

The high standard of Hamad General Hospital’s trauma services has received recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Trauma Center is working towards receiving accreditation status as a Level-1 trauma center.

The well-established Surgical Department that has developed has developed a highly regarded robotics surgery program for many specialties. Qatar’s National Center for Diabetes Treatment is housed within Hamad General Hospital, and the Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Center offers some of the most advanced treatments in the region for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease.

Heart Hospital

The Heart Hospital, opened in 2010, is Hamad Medical Corporation’s specialist hospital for adult cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Heart Hospital offers a range of dedicated, specialized care including cardiac and thoracic surgery, open heart surgery, and emergency cardiac services.

Heart Hospital has a state-of-the-art 20-bed coronary care unit, an equally impressive 12-bed cardiothoracic intensive care unit (ICU), a 24-bed surgical high-dependency unit (HDU), and 60 single-patient rooms with individual telemetry monitoring.

There are three operating theaters, a high-tech catheterization laboratory, and three laboratories with a dedicated electro-physiology function that allows for round-the-clock delivery of coronary interventional procedures, as well as a non-invasive laboratory providing a comprehensive range of non-invasive tests for inpatients and outpatients.

Heart Hospital’s emergency department is able to receive cardiac emergencies directly from the Ambulance Service who are equipped with ECG telemetry to allow consultant cardiologists to monitor cardiac patients while they are on their way and prepare appropriately for the patient’s arrival. The hospital has its own radiology department delivering cardiac CT, cardiac isotope studies and a full range of diagnostic procedures. There is also a cardiac rehabilitation center that helps patients recover their quality of life.

Women’s Wellness and Research Center

The Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) which opened in 2017  superseded the Women’s Hospital, established in 1988. Located in Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City in the heart of Doha, the center provides a range of specialized care for women and infants including obstetrics, gynecology, maternity care, neonatal care, NICU, emergency care, and newborn screening services.

The National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR)

The National Center for Cancer Care and Research, an 86-bed research facility opened in 2004, is Qatar’s premier and only dedicated cancer hospital. NCCCR offers patients a range of dedicated, specialized care including oncology, chemotherapy, targeted hormone immunotherapy, and radiotherapy. The center also treats benign and malignant hematology disorders and provides Bone Marrow Transplants in addition to palliative care and the pain management clinic.

General Hospitals

  • Al-Wakra Hospital

Al-Wakra Hospital opened in 2012 to serve the rapidly growing towns of Al Wakra and Mesaieed to the south of Doha. The hospital has 325 beds including 77  for critical care, high dependency, and burns patients. There are also an additional 77 observation/day beds. Al Wakra Hospital offers a range of medical and surgical specialties, including burns unit, pediatrics, dentistry, dermatology, and diabetes care.

  • Al Khor Hospital

Opened in 2005, Al Khor Hospital is a 115-bed general hospital that serves the diverse and growing community in the northern region of Qatar. The hospital has 115 beds and offers general medical and surgical care, emergency medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, and neonatal care.

  • The Cuban Hospital

Located in Dukhan in the west of Qatar, the Cuban Hospital is a joint venture project and partnership between the State of Qatar and the Cuban Government to serve the population of Dukhan and its surrounding communities. Opened in January 2012, the 65-bed hospital equipped with state-of-the-art technology is staffed by over 400 medical professionals from Cuba, supported by local staff and contractors. It is a demonstration of how international partnerships can result in a world-class standard of healthcare service.

New Community Hospitals

  • Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH)

Bringing care closer to the industrial area community, Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital is a state-of-the-art community general hospital for adult males living and working in the Industrial Area of Doha. It offers a range of inpatient and outpatient care, including some general surgery and less complex orthopedics, plastics, or urology procedures. The hospital also houses an Emergency Department for walk-in patients as well as HMC, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Qatar Red Crescent referrals and ambulance transfers.

  • Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital (AAH)

Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital, fully opened in 2023, is a community hospital located to the north of Qatar, just south of Al Khor. This 300-bed general hospital features an emergency department, operating theaters, obstetrics and gynecology service, neonatal intensive care, outpatient clinics, robotic pharmacy, laboratory services, and purpose-built VIP inpatient and critical care rooms.

Continuing Care Services

  • Rumailah Hospital

The oldest hospital in HMC’s network – Rumailah Hospital – established in 1957, is a 644-bed hospital offering rehabilitative services for disabled children, adults, and elderly people. The hospital has seven operating rooms, a laboratory, and a radiology unit with MRI, ultrasound, and bone densitometry equipment. Rumailah Hospital has successfully achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) Triennial Hospital Reaccreditation as well as JCI accreditation for Long-Term Care Standards and is the first hospital in the GCC to be granted this prestigious status.

  • Enaya Specialized Care Center

The Enaya Specialized Care Center is a support facility that works alongside Hamad General Hospital and Rumailah Hospital to provide 24-hour long-term residential care for up to 156 patients who are in stable condition. It is the only specialized facility of its kind in Qatar and one of the first in the Arab World.

  • Residential and Home Care

The Hamad Medical Corporation also provides short or long-term specialist care for

patients outside a hospital setting through the Home Healthcare Service.

Mental Health Services

Hamad Medical Corporation’s Mental Health Service is the main provider of specialized mental health care and treatment in Qatar.  This includes the Psychiatry Hospital for acute inpatient and outpatient care, child and adolescent mental health services, as well as community-based and hospital liaison services. The Psychiatry Hospital is involved in research projects and participates in teaching programs for medical and nursing students, as well as other allied health professionals. HMC’s Mental Health Service provides high-quality mental health care that combines psychotherapy, psychiatric medications, and psychological assessments. It also collaborates closely with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and other healthcare providers in Qatar, as well as managing the free National Mental Health Helpline.
