The licence depends on where the job is: DHA for Dubai, DOH for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and MOH for Sharjah and the other northern emirates. Saudi Arabia uses SCFHS and Qatar uses QCHP. Your document verification is recognised region-wide, so it is done only once even if you apply in more than one place.
You need your medical degree with transcripts, a valid licence from your country of last employment, a good standing certificate issued within the last six months, and a passport copy and photo. Surgical specialties also need a two-year logbook signed by a medical director, plus certified translations where required. Preparing these correctly is what prevents most delays.
For doctors from recognised countries it usually takes around three months, with document verification the main variable at four to eight weeks. The authority’s own timelines are fixed, but a licensing service avoids the delays caused by document errors or wrong grading, and starts verification early so nothing waits in sequence.
You need a recognised medical degree, a completed internship, and the clinical experience DHA sets for your grade, meeting the Unified Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR). A general practitioner usually needs around two years after internship; specialists and consultants are judged on their qualifications and where they trained. We check your eligibility before you apply.
You can complete your registration first, but it only activates into a full licence once an employer sponsors you. Running licensing and placement together means you are ready to begin work the moment you accept an offer, rather than starting a separate job search afterwards.
A concise CV that leads with your qualifications is the starting point, but most doctors reach the right hospitals through a medical job consultancy contracted with hospital groups across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. It matches your specialty to live vacancies and handles the introductions.
Salaries are completely tax free and negotiated individually. As a guide, Western-trained specialist consultants can earn a basic AED 80,000 to 90,000 a month, often with housing, schooling, and flight allowances on top, which lifts take-home pay well above the base figure.
You can apply yourself through the official portal; no agency is required. Most doctors use medical licensing services anyway, because they remove the document rejections and grading errors that add weeks, and because licensing and the job search can then run together.

I have had a great experience with Emilie and her wonderful team at Allocation Assist. They were actually recommended to me by friends who had had very positive experiences. They team supported me at every stage, from providing advice and insight into the Gulf healthcare market, to sorting out professional licensing and paperwork, and arranging interviews with some of the best hospitals in the region. Their efforts ultimately resulted in several job offers, and I honestly don't think I could have navigated the process so efficiently without their support. I also had the opportunity to visit their Dubai office and was made to feel very welcome. Allocation ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Assist I want to write this review as thoroughly as I can because this team genuinely deserves it and I know how much these reviews matter for a firm doing the kind of work they do. Allocation Assist specializes in helping Western trained physicians navigate the UAE licensing process and job market. If you are coming from Canada, the US, the UK, Europe or Australia, your credentials do not simply transfer. There is a process, it takes time, and the timeline varies depending on your specialty. What they do is walk you through every step while matching your profile to the right opportunities. My first contact was with Sumeya on the intake team. She was warm, professional, and completely honest. She made it clear that for a Western trained physician this would not happen overnight. In my case she projected six to nine months. I later learned that for certain specialties the timeline can extend to one to two years. That transparency is rare and valuable and she made sure I had the right mindset from day one. Violet Wifengla took full ownership of my licensing and she was exceptional. She responded immediately, was fully dedicated, and genuinely kind throughout what can otherwise be a stressful and bureaucratic process. I always knew where things stood and never had to chase anything. Zarni, their in-house medical doctor, then personally reviewed and reshaped my CV for the UAE market. This is not a generic editing service. He understands the clinical landscape, knows what hiring panels look for, and repositions your profile with real market knowledge. My subspecialty background was identified as a significant asset and my profile was positioned as such. Mohamed Refaat was my main coordinator and steady point of contact throughout. He was consistently responsive, made sure every question was answered, and ensured nothing fell through the cracks at any stage. Mohamed Othman and Rudaina Thabit worked the market on my behalf, reaching out to hospitals and managing connections with prospective employers. Their outreach opened the doors, including to the reputable and premier centre in Abu Dhabi where I ultimately accepted my position. Allocation Assist already had an established relationship there and had successfully placed physicians at that institution before, which made a real difference; as they already knew my profile was thoroughly vetted . One thing worth noting is that at certain points during the process, staff transitioned to other roles within the firm. Every single time, the handover was seamless. Whoever stepped in was fully briefed, completely up to date, and picked up exactly where things left off without a single gap. That kind of internal organization is not common and it speaks to how seriously they take their physician clients. Every one of them, Sumeya, Violet, Zarni, Mohamed Refaat, Mohamed Othman, and Rudaina, functioned like a well oiled machine with real humanity. Kind, professional, responsive, and genuinely invested. Slack communication was prompt without exception, feedback was actively solicited throughout, and coordination across the team including with prospective employers HR was seamless. Emilie Davies leads this firm and it shows in everything the team does and how they carry themselves. My advice: keep your current position and engage with them in parallel. Do not make this your only option while you wait. Trust their process and their timeline projections because they are accurate. If you are patient, realistic, and confident in your profile, and they are confident in it too, your opportunity will come. Five stars without question. If a sixth existed, I would give it without hesitation. Aseel AlahbabiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
